What Are Dental Sealants?
Dental sealants are thin plastic coatings that are applied to the grooves on the top surfaces of the back teeth (permanent molars) to protect them from tooth decay.
The first permanent molars erupt about age 6 and the second permanent molars erupt about age 12. Sealants are most effective if applied soon after eruption.
How are Sealants applied?
The teeth are thoroughly cleaned and dried; the liquid sealant is painted into the grooves and then hardened with a special curing light. The process is short and easy.
